Spiral-bound booklets made with synthetic plastic paper are ideal for various scenarios where durability and high-quality presentation are essential. Here are some perfect occasions to consider:
No matter the application, spiral-bound booklets made with synthetic plastic paper provide a versatile and long-lasting solution for your documentation needs.
In our online calculator, we have set a default limit of 100 pages per booklet. However, depending on the specifics of your project, we may be able to accommodate more pages. Please contact us for a customized estimate if you need a booklet with more than 100 pages.
These are the most commonly requested waterproof spiral bound booklet sizes in terms of the number of pages:
Regarding paper thickness, 8 mil inside and 11 or 14 point cover are the most common. 5 mil books are usually reserved for bigger books with lots of information to keep the weight low for field documents.
Because of the smoothness and the top quality of our substrate, we achieve more attractive and lasting prints than others do.
WHAT IS A SYNTHETIC PAPER? Synthetic paper is made out of a plastic resin which is extruded and calendered for a perfectly smooth finish. For this specific application, we use polyester sheets. Polyester metaphorically, the Ferrari of paper-plastics for printing.
UNIQUE WATER RESISTANCE PROPERTY: Unlike conventional paper made with wood pulp, plastic paper does not absorb water.
Think of the needs of a field crew repairing an electrical grid, geologists in the middle of a bare area, or when pipes burst and have to be replaced. Think about step-by-step instructions. Think about military-style documentation. Think of a multi-page restaurant menu. In every one of those cases, you need your documents to be available under any condition.
Using plastic paper as a substitution for conventional paper allows for those documents to be printed, bound, and kept readily accessible. The old-style laminates (a sandwich of clear plastic, paper, clear plastic) that were so popular only a few years ago are so thick and heavy that their use for this type of application has mostly disappeared and been replaced by synthetic plastic paper..
The document is bound together by a sturdy plastic spiral or coil, which is threaded through holes punched in the document. This spiraled plastic, resembling a coil, secures the pages together as a cohesive unit.
We created this section to provide information that will help you order synthetic paper spiral-bound books. We are always available to answer further questions. Just give us a call at 1-877-421-0668
This is a very versatile binding method. These plastics are hard to fold in half and stitching on the spine is not an option.
Each of the options can be used. Understand from your end how the booklets will be used and manipulated. That analysis will uncover the right thickness for your project.
See Through / Stiffness: We would only suggest that you print the front and back covers of thicker synthetics. A 5 point substrate is flimsy and could get see-through. An 11point or 14 point cover might be a good enhancement to life and beauty of your booklet.
The estimate reflects 20# copy paper for a reference. Other types of paper are thicker, which will reduce the number of sheets indicated in this guide
Note that the diameter of the coil is indicated in milimiters.

As in a regular book, each side of the sheet of paper counts as a page.
We need to know how many pages are there in your book.
Tip #1 for Double Side Printing: Start counting the cover as "page 1", the back of the cover will be "page 2", the next page will be "page 3" and continue until the back cover included.
Tip #2 for Single Side Printing: If will print your book "single-side", do not count the white backside, but if your book will print "double side", you have to count every page, even if it is meant to remain white (no printing)
Tip #3: For the purpose of answering this question, it is not important how many files you will be uploading. We are trying to understand what the final book will look like.
The inside pages are all of the pages of the booklet, minus 4 (4 sides that you find in the cover / inside cover + back cover / inside back cover)
NO BLEED: You get a white unprinted border next to the edge of the sheet
BLEED: You get printing up to the edge of the sheet. Your files require special preparation. Ask us if you don't know how to create the bleed. We have created a valuable resource for you to better understand how to create bleed.

Your decision affects all of the sheets, except for the first sheet, which is the front cover, and the last sheet, that is the back cover
Choose the paper on which the book will be printed on
A reminder about the thickness:
14pt's thickness is comparable to a very thick and slick business card. 11point's thickness is comparable to a thick business card. 8 points are comparable to a thin cardstock 5 points are similar to a glossy paper
Tip:1 - Self-Standing Booklets: Your best options are 11pt or 14pt. 2 - In-field manuals - few pages: your best options are 11pt or 14pt3 - A larger number of pages: your best options are 5pt or 8pt
Thickness of the covers : Same thickness in and out Versus Thicker covers. Which one to choose?
1 - If you want All Pages (sheets) will be printed on the same paper: Whichever stock you select in this option will be the stock used on every single page (sheet)
2 - If you want cover stock printed covers, A couple of lines down you will be able to determine if there are any hardcovers in your book. If you choose "yes" for that option, you will have the opportunity to select the stock for the covers at the time. Your selection for this particular question will affect all of the inside of the book.
Black Coil is the standard option. Should your project require coil binding in different color, please contact our office at 1-877-421-0668 or request a custom quote online. We'll be happy to provide a custom estimate.
The picture provides an example of what the coil looks like; here, it is depicted as a black coil.
If your booklet will be a typical regular booklet, you should select "Portrait" view. Otherwide select "Landscape"
In a PORTRAIT view the width is shorter than the height, as in a regular book.
If you choose LANDSCAPE, the longer side of the sheet will be the bottom or the width, while the shorter side will become the height.
